Scanella is built on original processes, design and data. This page sets out the functional processes, workflows, interface elements and unique selling points that Scanella treats as its proprietary intellectual property, and the mechanisms we use to defend them. It is a good-faith summary, not a legal warranty or an exhaustive registration list.
Brand & trade dress
- Scanella — the trade name and word mark.
- “Scan it. Value it. Sell it.” — the Scanella slogan.
- The Scanella aperture emblem and full logo lockup, including the white-badge container treatment.
- The “marine-tech” visual language: deep marine-blue gradients, metallic silver and teal accents, and aperture-inspired circular motifs used across the app and customer emails.
- The aperture scan animation, scan-sweep, pulse-ring and aperture-spin motion sequences used during item capture and processing.
These are defended as trademarks and trade dress (brand name, slogan, emblem) and as artistic works protected by copyright (logo composition, visual system, animation sequences).
Proprietary processes & workflows
The following end-to-end processes and their implementation code are original to Scanella and are protected as copyrighted software and, where indicated, as trade secrets:
- Scan-Value-Sell pipeline — the camera capture, server-side image orientation baking, AI identification, valuation and one-tap listing composition flow.
- AI valuation engine — the prompt design and pipeline that identifies an item from a photo, estimates its market value from real sold comparables, and drafts the listing copy.
- Listing Verification Architecture — the server-side verification workflow and its status model (unverified, verified by API, partial, manual, internal and published-unverified) recorded in a verification log.
- Counterfeit-prevention system — the AI authenticity check run at publish, the risk-flag routing to manual review, the buyer report flow, and the moderation gate that keeps unapproved listings off the public marketplace.
- Sold-comparables evidence trail — the curated comps shown to sellers at compose and to buyers on the marketplace listing.
- Multi-platform publishing — the server-side publish, status sync and per-platform toggle that extends a listing from the Scanella Marketplace to eBay, Etsy and Vinted.
- Tiered subscription & paywall — the server-side scan-quota reservation, tier-access rules and trial lifecycle (start, expire, cancel) that enforce plan limits.
- Bin recovery system — the soft-delete snapshot, restore and permanent-delete workflow for scans and listings.
- Guest checkout & magic-link tracking — the single-use access token that lets a guest buyer view order status and tracking at a private URL without an account.
- Messaging & offers — the conversation and offer workflow, including the guest buyer token that lets a non-registered buyer reply to a seller thread.
- Delivery & fulfilment rules — the seller-defined delivery options (flat, weight, size, distance), the checkout delivery-charge calculation, the coarse geolocation “Near me” filter, and the order lifecycle from requested to completed.
- Project folders — the grouping, colour-coding and aggregate-value presentation for organising larger clear-outs.
- Price refresh — the scheduled re-evaluation of stale listings against live market data, with the up/down delta surfaced to the seller.
- Guided listing wizard & smart assistant — the multi-phase compose steps and the repositionable AI assistant bubble that provides step-specific guidance.
- TLAAT — the Time-Limited Admin Access Token framework used for secure demo and administrative access (trade secret).
AI, data & models
- The prompt templates and processing logic behind scan analysis, the AI listing assistant, the AI delivery suggestion, and the AI authenticity check.
- The sold-comparables dataset and the curated category, condition and valuation reference data that power estimates and the evidence trail.
- The verification-log, error-log and moderation records generated by the workflows above, which constitute an original operational dataset.

Enforcement & reporting
Scanella reserves all rights in the intellectual property described here. We monitor for unauthorised copying of our processes, interface and brand, and we will act against imitation that misleads buyers or traders.
